Coal Plant Moratorium
House Bill 689

By Karen Stroder

I am writing to ask for your support of House Bill 689, which is being co-sponsored by a number of Magic Valley legislators and hopes to establish a moratorium for coal plants being built in Idaho. Although this is a current threat to the Magic Valley, if a plant is built here, it will only be a matter of time before others are proposed for other parts of the state. It is vitally important to take some time to assess these types of projects and this bill will provide much-needed time to determine the impact of coal-fired plants in our state. It would be extremely helpful to this effort if you would contact the individuals on the House Committee for Environment, Energy & Technology to encourage their support of this bill.

Their email address are:
Dell Raybould - drayboul@house.idaho.gov
R. J. Harwood - dharwood@house.idaho.gov
Jack Barraclough - jbarracl@house.idaho.gov
Jullie Ellsworth - jellswor@house.idaho.gov
Clete Edmunson - cedmunso@house.idaho.gov
Mark Snodgrass - msnodgra@house.idaho.gov
Steve Smylie - ssmylie@house.idaho.gov

George Eskridge - geskridg@house.idaho.gov
Ann Rydalch - arydalch@house.idaho.gov
Eric Anderson - eanderso@house.idaho.gov
Stan Bastian - sbastian@house.idaho.gov
Russ Mathews - rmathews@house.idaho.gov
Elaine Smith - esmith@house.idaho.gov
Nicole LeFavour - nlefavou@house.idaho.gov

You may wish to contact them individually,
using their email addresses above, or you may prefer to send one email to each member of the committee by using this link:
http://www.legislature.idaho.gov/about/contactbycommittee.cfm. Go to the first box, pick the House Environment, Energy & Technology Committee and click on "search." This will bring up a list of all of the above people, but at the top of the page is an option where you may send an email to everyone at once. For those of your residing outside of the Magic Valley area, it would also be VERY helpful if you would contact your own local legislators to let them know of your support of both this bill and Senate Bill 1293, dealing with mercury emissions. Only with your help can we possibly hope to get legislation passed to keep coal-fired plants out of Idaho.
